To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album War All The Time, notable post-hardcore band Thursday took post-hardcore veterans Rival Schools and the iconic musicians from Many Eyes on a world tour. On Wednesday, February 21st 2024 the trio of bands stopped off in Boston, MA at the Paradise Rock Club for a thrilling and memorable performance.
Rival Schools -
Rival Schools is a four piece post-hardcore band from New York City. They've been active on and off since 1999. As a post-hardcore band they have elements of alternative rock, punk rock, indie rock, and emo elements in their sound. The members themselves are all hardcore icons in their own right; vocalist and guitarist Walter Schreifels comes from bands Gorilla Biscuits and Quicksand, bassist Cache Tolman from Iceburn, drummer Sam Siegler from CIV and Youth of Today and guitarist Ian Love from Burn (fun fact: Ian Love is now working with wood and has a design/furniture company).
Their name comes from the 1997 Capcom game Rival Schools: United by Fate. They have released three albums over the years; United by Fate in 2001, Pedals in 2011, and Found in 2013. The band has also released six singles, “Used for Glue “Travel by Telephone” “Good Things” in 2002, “Shot After Shot in 2010, and “Wring it out” and “Eyes Wide Open” in 2011. They've played festivals like Soundwave in Australia, Rock Am Ring in Germany, Hove Festival in Norway, and Download Festival in the United Kingdom. Rival Schools most recent release was their Some EP EP that was released in October of 2022.
MY FAVORITE SONG: “Used For Glue” off of United By Fate in 2001.
Many Eyes -
If you know metalcore you know the name Every Time I Die and were most likely very sad when the group announced their split after 24 years. After the split, their iconic frontman and vocalist Keith Buckley truly decided to work on bettering himself and reorganized his priorities. After being encouraged by Hatebreed’s vocalist Jamey Jasta, he reached out to the Bellmore brothers - drummer Nick Bellmore (Kingdom of Sorrow + Toxic Holocaust) and guitarist Charlie Bellmore (Kingdom of Sorrow + more). Getting along immediately, the trio started working on their sound and released "Revelation " in October of 2023. “Mystic Cord" was released roughly a month later in mid November and their most recent and only other release was "Future Proof" in mid January 2024. Their sound is very reminiscent of the hardcore sounds of Every Time I Die, but Buckley’s growth and development as on artist and musician is very apparent in the lyrics and vocals. Keep an eye out for Many Eyes’ debut album that will be produced by Jamey Jasta and released through Perseverance Media Group.
